MILPITAS, Calif., October 3, 2006 -- LifeScan, Inc, announced today that it will provide a OneTouch® Brand Blood Glucose Monitor—which includes a starter supply of test strips—at no charge to any diabetes patient that monitors their blood glucose with a BD Logic® Monitor and BD™ Test Strips from Becton, Dickinson and Company. Becton, Dickinson announced yesterday that it will exit the blood glucose monitoring market. The company will discontinue distribution of BD Logic Monitors immediately and, at the end of 2007, will stop distributing BD Test Strips.
Customers who would like to change to a OneTouch® Brand Blood Glucose Monitor can do so by calling LifeScan's toll-free Customer Service Line at 888 430-7226. Certain restrictions may apply.
"Keeping blood sugar in a healthy range is critical for people who are trying to control their diabetes and reduce their risk for complications, and blood sugar testing plays a vital role," said LifeScan President Tom West. "Current users of the BD Logic Monitor will have to move to a different product in the months ahead, and LifeScan is doing what it can to assist these patients and make this transition easier."
