LIFESCAN PARTNERS WITH JDRF FOR “WALK THE FLOOR, FIND A CURE” AT THE 2007 AACC AND ASCLS ANNUAL MEETINGS IN SAN DIEGO Milpitas, CA - June 29, 2007 - LifeScan, a Johnson & Johnson company, is taking a "step-by-step" approach-literally-to advancing diabetes care at this year's meeting of the American Association of Clinical Chemistry (AACC) and the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS). LifeScan is sponsoring "Walk the Floor, Find a Cure," a benefit for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF) during the three-day Clinical Lab Expo July 17-19 in San Diego. Attendees who visit the LifeScan booth will receive a free pedometer to log the steps they take during the show. LifeScan will donate $1 for every 100 steps taken, to the JDRF, with a maximum donation of $20,000. JDRF is the world's leading nonprofit, nongovernmental funder of diabetes research. LifeScan encourages AACC and ASCLS meeting attendees to join the company and JDRF in working to find a cure for type 1 diabetes by taking part in this exciting addition to the Clinical Lab Expo. Those who would like to participate can register for "Walk the Floor, Find a Cure" at www.CaringAboutDiabetes.com, then pick up a free pedometer at the LifeScan booth and get started raising money for a diabetes cure. "LifeScan's vision is to create a world without limits for people with diabetes, and this year we are partnering with our customers by taking another step toward making that vision a reality," says Tom West, President of LifeScan. "This walk is designed to raise funding for research as well as increase awareness of diabetes, its growing prevalence, and the tireless efforts of organizations like JDRF." "JDRF truly appreciates the commitment of both LifeScan and the AACC and ASCLS attendees that register and participate in this 'floor walk,' as these kinds of efforts are crucial in our fight to find a cure to juvenile diabetes," says Linda Riley, executive director at JDRF-San Diego. "We depend on charitable contributions and events like this one to help raise funds for research and education." About JDRFJDRF, the world's leading charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research, was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with juvenile diabetes - a disease which strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin-dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. Since inception, JDRF has provided more than $1 billion in direct funding to diabetes research. More than 80 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. JDRF's mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. For more information, visit the JDRF Web site at www.jdrf.org or call 858.597.0240.
