Counterfeit Product Alert

Counterfeit ONETOUCH® Ultra® and ONETOUCH® Horizon® Blood Glucose Test Strips discovered in India

If you use, recommend, distribute or sell OneTouch® Brand Test Strips, we want to make you aware that we have recently discovered counterfeit ONETOUCH® Ultra® and ONETOUCH® Horizon® Blood Glucose Test Strips in India. Counterfeit product is fake product not made by LifeScan.

Potential Risk To Patients

Over the past several years, LifeScan has, on occasion, become aware of counterfeit products being distributed in different countries at different times. Testing of these counterfeit test strips from around the world has shown erratic performance that includes highly inaccurate test results or failure to provide test results. It is unknown how counterfeit test strips that may be in the marketplace will perform. LifeScan cannot ensure the accuracy and reliability of blood glucose test results obtained from test strips it did not manufacture. Use of these counterfeit test strips could result in inaccurate test results that may lead to improper treatment. Notably, treatment of diabetes especially with insulin based on inaccurate blood glucose results could result in serious injury or death.

Identifying Counterfeit ONETOUCH® Ultra® and ONETOUCH® Horizon® Test Strips

We have discovered counterfeit test strips among the following lots of genuine ONETOUCH® Ultra® and ONETOUCH® Horizon® Test Strips:

If you have any test strips from these lots, please look for the following characteristics to determine if your test strips are genuine. If your test strips Do Not have the genuine features listed below, your test strips are counterfeit.

Product Pack - Genuine Features

  • As the MRP label is removed, the words "open" should appear twice underneath it. See photos (Annex. I )
  • The ONETOUCH® zone scratch panel should be present on the pack. The number that appears after scratching the sticker can be verified by our customer care centre. See photos. (Annex. I )

Test Strip - Genuine Features

  • The ONETOUCH® trademark should be printed on the test strips. See photos. (Annex. I ) Only in Ultra.

If you determine you have counterfeit test strips or require assistance, call LifeScan Customer Service at 1-800-22-5544 (Toll Free from MTNL and BSNL landlines) or 022-30845544 between 7:00 am to 11:00 pm, Monday through Sunday.

We recommend you routinely check any 10, 25 and 50–Count ONETOUCH® Ultra® and ONETOUCH® Horizon® Test Strips. Patients with counterfeit test strips should immediately discontinue their use and replace them. Patients should also contact their physician to assess potential treatment implications.

How LifeScan Is Addressing This Issue

LifeScan is working closely with the Drugs Controller General of India and Customs to try and prevent counterfeit test strips from entering and or being distributed in India. We are also alerting distributors, retailers, healthcare professionals and consumers of this issue.
