FACT SHEET
OneTouch® II DATA DOCKý USING DATALINKý CONNECTIVITY

OneTouch ® II Data Dock™ LifeScan hospital customers that rely on the OneTouch® II DATA DOCK Hospital System or the original OneTouch® II Hospital System can upgrade their existing system to provide complete data connectivity-from the point of care to the laboratory-as these systems are now compatible with the DataLink™ Data Management System. This provides the OneTouch® II Hospital Products a full array of connectivity solutions for the transfer and management of data between the point of care (POC) and the laboratory/health information system (LIS or HIS). It also means that all LifeScan hospital blood glucose systems now offer DataLink™ Connectivity, including the brand new SureStep®Flexx Professional Blood Glucose Management System as well as the SureStep®Pro Professional Blood Glucose Management System.

This new connectivity addition is particularly significant, as more than 1,500 hospital customers combined rely on the OneTouch® II Hospital System or the OneTouch® II DATA DOCK Hospital System. The OneTouch® II DATA DOCK System was introduced in 1997 to add expanded memory as well as quality control and patient data management functions to the original OneTouch® II Hospital System. The DataLink System's new compatibility is actually with the OneTouch® II DATA DOCK module, but this component can easily be added to the original system along with DataLink™ as part of a complete connectivity/data management installation.

Overview of DataLink™

The DataLink™ System for the OneTouch II DATA DOCK is a flexible data management system that enables health care institutions to electronically transmit blood glucose data from their remote POC locations to their centralized LIS. Once in the LIS, a patient's data can be merged with the patient's Electronic Medical Record so that it is widely and readily accessible throughout the institution. In addition to improving data access and streamlining retrieval, the DataLink System helps an institution increase workflow efficiency, improve billing, and track material usage.

From Bedside to Workstation to LIS/HIS

The DataLink™ System features three components to facilitate the transfer and management of data from the point of care to the laboratory:

  • Based on an institution's communications capabilities, DataLink™ Connect enables institutions to transfer data between bedside meters and the point-of-care coordinator's DataLink™ Workstation via several options, including single modem, multiple receiving modems, or a hospital's own computer network through an Ethernet connection. When the OneTouch® II DATA DOCK Module and Meter are connected via DataLink™, patient blood glucose data can be transferred from the meter to the workstation. In turn, the DataLink™ System's bi-directional communication capability also enables the workstation to send important information back to the meter, such as control ranges and meter configuration information.

  • DataLink™ Control enables the POC coordinator to monitor, track and manage all patient and QC test results from the centralized DataLink™ Workstation or a database application.

  • Once POC patient glucose data has been prepared and is ready for integration, DataLink™ Interface enables it to be quickly transmitted to the LIS via scripted interface or HL-7-compatible electronic data interfaces (EDIs). LifeScan EDIs are compatible with LISs from the three leading LIS vendors-Sunquest Information Systems, Cerner Corporation, and MEDITECH.
