LIFESCAN WEB SITE WINS AWARD FROM EHEALTHCAREWORLD
LifeScan.com Declared A Top Disease Management Site

MILPITAS, Calif., November 11, 1999 - LifeScan, a Johnson & Johnson company, has received a silver award from eHealthcareWorld because the company's Web site, www.LifeScan.com, was designated as one of the best disease management sites on the Internet. The award recognizes excellence in healthcare Web sites and online service development and was conferred at a ceremony in New York on November 4th. eHealthcareWorld is an Internet forum produced by eMarketWorld, the world's leading provider of industry-specific Internet conferences.

Launched in 1996, LifeScan.com provides information to help people with diabetes better manage their disease. The site also features resources to help health care professionals improve the quality of life for their patients with diabetes. Currently, the site attracts more than 45,000 visitors per month.

To win this award, LifeScan.com was judged on five attributes:

  • Objectives -- how well the site fulfills its objectives and meets the needs of its audience;

  • Content -- to what extent the site reflects development by credible sources and contains balanced and up-to-date information;

  • Style -- how well the information is "packaged," and whether the graphics are appropriate for the audience;

  • Interface -- how easily users can access the site and move around within it;

  • Breakthrough impact -- whether the site represents a contribution to Internet healthcare communication.

"LifeScan is honored to have our Web site recognized for its commitment to helping people with diabetes better manage their disease," stated Colleen Cox, Marketing Web Site Manager at LifeScan. "Our Web site has been an effective tool for providing diabetes education and awareness. Many customers have told us that the information available on the site makes a real difference in their lives."

One of the most useful areas of the LifeScan Web site is "Diabetes Self-Care," which includes self-care tips, an "at-risk" quiz, and "Be Average" materials for both patients and their health care providers. "Be Average" refers to the importance of keeping blood glucose levels within a range that avoids the highs and lows that can contribute to diabetes complications. The "Be Average" information is in the form of downloadable brochures on the following topics: improving overall diabetes management, diet and monitoring, exercise and monitoring, diabetes pills and monitoring, and insulin and monitoring.

LifeScan, the leading maker of blood glucose monitors and test strips, is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with diabetes. More diabetes educators, specialists and pharmacists recommend LifeScan systems than any other brand. Every day, more than three million people rely on LifeScan systems for simple testing and accurate results.
