LIFESCAN ENHANCES DIABETES MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE
IN TOUCH® Software Now Compatible with All LifeScan Consumer Meters
MILPITAS, Calif., October 1, 1999 -- LifeScan, Inc. has introduced IN TOUCH® Diabetes Management Software, Version 1.31, an upgrade of the company's Windows®-based software that can now download blood glucose test results from any of LifeScan's current consumer meters, making the company the first to offer this capability in one software package.
"The new IN TOUCH® Software enables people with diabetes to have data management with the LifeScan meter best suited to their testing needs," said Kathy Ewing, IN TOUCH® Product Manager at LifeScan. "Using the software's charts and graphs, they can work with their healthcare providers to spot glucose trends and identify appropriate lifestyle changes."
Other new features available with IN TOUCH Software 1.31 include:
- Plasma/Whole Blood Conversion. The "View Options" feature enables users to view downloaded results as either whole blood or plasma values, regardless of the meter the results came from. So, whether they're whole blood values from the OneTouch® Basic® Meter, OneTouch® Profile® Meter, or OneTouch® II Meter, or plasma values from the FastTake® Meter or SureStep® Meter, all results can be viewed either way.
- Multiple Meters, Single Report. The new software can download data from multiple meters onto a single report. So, if a user has a OneTouch® Profile® Meter at home and a FastTake® Meter at work, he or she can easily analyze the combined data from both meters in a single report.
- Average Lines. The three IN TOUCH® Reports that include a line graph -- 14-Day Summary, Line Graph, and Glucose and Insulin Graph -- provide the option to turn an "average line" on or off. This feature enables users to see their average glucose level for each day plotted alongside the line graph, which plots all of their specific results over several days.
- Expanded Readings by Events. In addition to charted readings by the three mealtimes, the Average Reading Summary, the 14-day Summary, and the Readings Within Target have each added readings for bedtime as well as for the middle of the night. Also, the Readings Within Target report now splits the three mealtime readings to provide pre-meal and post-meal readings (i.e. pre-breakfast, post-breakfast, pre-lunch, etc.).
IN TOUCH Diabetes Management Software has a suggested retail value of $89.99. Information on how to order it is available by contacting LifeScan at 1-800-227-8862.
The software comes with program diskettes, an informative user's manual, a quick-reference guide, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. An interface cable is included to connect the user's LifeScan Meter to his or her computer for downloading.
Additionally, a FastTake® Adapter is required to download results from the FastTake Meter. This is available separately from LifeScan at the 800 number noted above.
Computer requirements for IN TOUCH Software include an IBM®-compatible computer (486 processor or higher); Microsoft® Windows® 3.1 running in enhanced mode, Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT; 8 MB of RAM; 15 MB of free hard disk space; a 1.44 MB 3½-inch, high-density floppy disk drive; a mouse or trackball; an available serial port; and a 640 x 480 resolution (or better) VGA monitor.
