LIFESCAN INTRODUCES ENHANCEMENTS TO HOSPITAL SYSTEM
New Features Available in October

MILPITAS, Calif, July, 1996 -- LifeScan, a Johnson & Johnson company, and the leading blood glucose monitoring system company, will introduce in October 1996, an enhanced OneTouch II Hospital System with a new generation of quality control and memory features designed to better meet the needs of healthcare providers. The enhanced OneTouch II Hospital System will continue to utilize LifeScan's proven no-wipe technology and to effectively address the unique quality control (QC) and regulatory requirements of each hospital. "We specifically designed this system to build on OneTouch technology's accuracy and ease of use at the bedside, while enhancing the system's capability for assisting hospitals in complying with their regulatory requirements," said Nancy Stubblefield, senior marketing manager of hospital products at LifeScan.

Features and Benefits

  • Time QC Lockout. The system will not allow patient testing if required QC testing is not done within a specified time.

  • True Lockout. OneTouch technology can distinguish between blood and control solution, and now the system will give an error message if blood is applied in the QC mode. This is designed to assure that QC testing is done before patient tests are performed.

  • Patient Test and QC Result Memory. The data log has been increased from 210 QC results to 900 QC and patient tests combined. The memory can also verify that QC tests are completed on days patient tests are performed.

  • QC and Patient Result Report. The enhanced system documents that QC testing is completed each day patient tests are conducted ensuring regulatory requirements are met.

  • Expanded Capacity for Operator ID Numbers. To accommodate large hospitals the enhanced OneTouch II Hospital System has an increased capacity for operator ID numbers, from 249 to 1999.

  • On-Screen Viewing and Print Selected Meters. Program administrators can now obtain specific reports from selected meters as well as view and change all prompts and options with a custom designed computer program.

For users of the OneTouch II Hospital System, LifeScan provides a 24-hour toll-free Customer Service number, as well as professional in-service training support. Hospitals wishing further information about the enhanced OneTouch II Hospital System or any of the company's products or services may call 1-800-524-7226.
