LIFESCAN INTRODUCES DIABETES MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE
--Easy-To-Use Windowsý -Based Program Combines Analysis and Education--

MILPITAS, Calif., October 4, 1995 -- LifeScan, Inc., the leading maker of diabetes blood glucose monitoring systems has introduced a software program that will help people with diabetes better manage their disease. Called the IN TOUCH Diabetes Management Software, it is the first diabetes software to combine comprehensive data analysis with diabetes education in an easy-to-use WindowsTM -based program. The IN TOUCH Diabetes Management Software takes test results and other information stored in LifeScan's OneTouch® Profile® and OneTouch® II Blood Glucose Monitoring Systems and automatically creates in-depth reports -- helping people with diabetes and their healthcare professionals spot trends, chart test results and evaluate progress against goals. Controlling diabetes has been proven to reduce the major complications of this serious disease that affects 16 million Americans and is the fourth leading cause of death by disease in the U.S.

"With the IN TOUCH Software, people with diabetes can now have their own complete, personalized diabetes profile to help them gain control and stay there," said LifeScan Product Manager, Kathy Ewing. "Just one click of a mouse downloads the data, another click allows you to view any of 10 different reports, and another click to print."

Among the ten IN TOUCH Software reports that can be used to evaluate and adjust individualized care are: Average Reading Summary, Glucose and Insulin Graph, Histogram, Log Book, Readings Within Target, and 14-Day Summary. For more advanced users and healthcare professionals, the program also provides the flexibility to customize reports to meet the most specific data analysis needs.

The program also features a diabetes education module that includes interactive quizzes, health tips and system instructions for LifeScan's OneTouch® Monitoring Systems. Color images and animated graphics make the information fun and easy to use for people of any age. The IN TOUCH Diabetes Management Software requires an IBM-compatible computer (486 processor or greater), Microsoft Windows 3.1 (or higher), 8 MB of RAM and 20 MB of free hard disk space, 3.5-inch high density floppy disk drive, mouse or trackball, available serial port and VGA monitor (color recommended).

Available now, the IN TOUCH Diabetes Management Software can be ordered through pharmacists or by calling LifeScan at 1-800-227-8862 for additional ordering information. The software includes complete instructions and comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

LifeScan is committed to improving the quality of life for people with diabetes. For home and hospital use, the company's OneTouch® Meters, Genuine OneTouch® Test Strips and Control Solution, and now the IN TOUCH Diabetes Management Software, form an accurate and reliable System that helps patients and their healthcare professionals determine the effectiveness of prescribed medication, diet and exercise programs. OneTouch® Systems are recommended by more physicians, diabetes educators and pharmacists than any other brand. More than three million OneTouch® Systems have been purchased to help people with diabetes lead healthier lives.
