LIFESCAN INTRODUCES ADVANCE IN HOSPITAL BLOOD GLUCOSE MONITORING --New Module Transforms Existing OneTouch® II Hospital System-- MILPITAS, Calif., December 19, 1997 -- LifeScan, Inc., a Johnson & Johnson company and the leading maker of blood glucose monitoring systems for people with diabetes, has unveiled the OneTouch® II DATA DOCK™ Hospital module, an innovative approach to upgrading the company's OneTouch II Hospital System. The new module integrates directly with the OneTouch ®II Hospital Meter -- used by nearly 2,000 hospitals -- to deliver expanded quality control (QC) and patient data management capabilities to help simplify regulatory compliance. "The OneTouch® II DATA DOCKTM module is a whole new approach to system upgrades," says Allison Whitlock, RN, Hospital Product Manager. "lnstead of connecting the meter to a separate docking station, the II DATA DOCKTM module is designed to house the existing OneTouch II Hospital Meter creating a new, more powerful handheld bedside unit. When integrated with an existing OneTouch® II Hospital Meter, the system features a 16-key alphanumeric input pad to simplify data entry. A large, easy-to-read display with a 12 character message line delivers more complete and comprehensive information than ever before. The system now boasts a 1,200-test memory for both QC and patient results that can be downloaded to the hospital workstation in less than a minute. For facilities using barcode technology to track patient, operator and reagent data, an optional barcode wand is available. "The OneTouch® II DATA DOCKTM Hospital module will help our customers better manage the ever-changing regulatory environment," says Whitlock. "It has the key features to simplify compliance with both CAP and JCAHO regulations including: reagent lot tracking, corrective action marking, and the ability to set critical patient blood glucose values that notify the operator of results requiring action." The system features an enhanced workstation program with a new one-page Meter Compliance Report. Also included are customizable options for module settings, report date ranges and QC reports. Customer service is available 24-hours a day by calling 1 800 524-7226. Services include: regulatory hotline service, technical product support, system training and troubleshooting, and diabetes information and educational materials to address a variety of bedside blood glucose monitoring needs. LifeScan, a member of the Johnson & Johnson family of diagnostic companies, is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with diabetes.
