LIFESCAN ENHANCES ITS PRODUCT LINE
--Improvements Made to Meters, Test Strips, Software and Lancing Device--
MILPITAS, Calif., June 28, 1999 -- LifeScan, the leading manufacturer of blood glucose self-monitoring products for people with diabetes, debuted its latest product innovations at the American Diabetes Association's 59 Scientific Sessions, held in San Diego from June 19 through 22. These innovations range from enhancements in the company's blood glucose meters, test strips and diabetes management software to an all-new lancing device.
"LifeScan offers a variety of different blood glucose products, each with features tailored to different segments of the diabetes population," stated Yolanda Canny, Director of Consumer/Professional Marketing at LifeScan. "In our commitment to listening and responding to our customers' needs, we're introducing this latest series of product enhancements to better meet the needs of consumers, healthcare providers and retailers."
Specific LifeScan product enhancements include:
- OneTouch® Basic® Meter. Based on user feedback, the meter recommended most by pharmacists has been updated to offer a 75-test memory with optional display of date and time, a larger screen, and a newly configured shape to fit easily in the hand. The expanded memory of OneTouch Basic will help free users from the more frequent logbook updates required by meters that have smaller memory capacity. Also new, the OneTouch Basic Meter uses two widely-available AAA batteries and provides user messages in English, Spanish and 15 other languages. And like all LifeScan Meters, the meter now has data downloading compatibility with LifeScan's IN TOUCH® Diabetes Management Software.
- SureStep® Meter. This easy-to-use meter now offers a 150-test memory with date and time, reducing the need for frequent logbook updates. It also provides data downloading compatibility with LifeScan's IN TOUCH Software and automatic 14-day and 30-day test averages, helping users to spot glucose trends quickly. The SureStep System also features a touchable test strip for easy blood application. The strip confirms when enough blood is applied, helping reduce wasted test strips.
- FastTake® Meter and Test Strip. The "take anywhere, test anytime" meter for people on the go now provides data downloading to LifeScan's IN TOUCH Software using the FastTake® Adapter. With one of the smallest blood sample requirements on the market (2.5 µL), the test strip for the FastTake Meter now has a confirmation window to help patients know when they have applied enough blood. This new feature helps build patient confidence in their testing technique.
- IN TOUCH® Diabetes Management Software, Version 1.31. This new version of LifeScan's user-friendly Windows®-based software is compatible with all current LifeScan consumer meters, now making LifeScan the first blood glucose company to offer one software package capable of downloading patient glucose data from any of its meters. This enables patients to have data management with the LifeScan meter best suited to their testing needs while giving healthcare providers consistent glucose data from any LifeScan meter. Under the guidance of their healthcare providers, patients can use the analysis provided by the IN TOUCH charts and graphs to spot trends and make appropriate lifestyle changes. In addition, several helpful changes have been made in the software's various reports.
- Penlet® Plus Lancing Device. This all-new lancing device helps make testing less painful. The new device offers patients seven easy-to-dial lancing-depth selections and hands-free lancet removal for safer disposal. When used with OneTouch® FinePoint™ Lancets, the new device makes for one of the most comfortable lancing systems available.
LifeScan, a member of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with diabetes. More diabetes educators, specialists and pharmacists recommend LifeScan systems than any other brand. Every day, more than three million people rely on LifeScan systems for simple testing and accurate results.
