But for people with diabetes, diet is the cornerstone for living a healthy, active, and productive life. With this in mind, LifeScan, a Johnson & Johnson company that makes blood glucose meters for people with diabetes, has enhanced its Web site, www.LifeScan.com, with the addition of a recipe/nutrition page. The new web page, located in the Diabetes Self-Care section of LifeScan's Web site, offers adults and children with diabetes health-conscious, yet delicious recipes online that include complete nutritional information, so they can easily be incorporated into any meal plan. Under a section entitled "Recipes of the Month Collector's Series," a new set of theme recipes is available on the first Monday of every month. The recipes were developed by PicNics Publishing, which publishes diabetes cookbooks, and Surrey Books, a publisher of nutrition and healthy eating books. Furthermore, every other month, the focus is on easy-to-make recipes that children with diabetes can prepare themselves or with minimal supervision. Kid-friendly recipes will help children build important and necessary nutrition/diet skills that can be used for a lifetime of healthy eating. Upcoming recipe topics for 2000 include:
"We are very excited to offer the recipe/nutrition page, as this information has been the number one request from our Web site visitors," said Colleen Cox, marketing Web site manager, LifeScan, Inc. "Diet is a lifestyle issue that challenges many people, not just people with diabetes. The addition of this page, coupled with the diet/meal planning information under the Diabetes Self-Care section on the Web site, provides tools to encourage proper diet and nutrition skills as a foundation for better diabetes management." Hyperlinks available on LifeScan's Web site to other recipe resources include the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and Children with DIABETES. In addition to diet, it is important for people with diabetes to understand nutrition. The new page also offers direct links to a variety of nutrition resources, many of which can already be found on other pages of LifeScan's Web site, such as:
