MILPITAS, Calif., April 18, 1995 -- LifeScan, Inc., the nation's leading maker of diabetes blood glucose monitoring systems, has been awarded the Shingo Prize, a major international award that recognizes world class manufacturing excellence. The Shingo Prize will be presented to LifeScan and five other firms at a ceremony in Dallas, Texas, on May 18.

LifeScan, a Johnson & Johnson company, is known for its quality products and services, including the OneTouch^® Brand family of blood glucose meters. OneTouch^® Brand Meters are recommended by more physicians, diabetes educators and pharmacists than any other brand. More than three million have been purchased to help people with diabetes lead healthier lives.

The Shingo Prize, which recognizes LifeScan's stringent manufacturing of its OneTouch^® products, is given to companies that have demonstrated outstanding achievements in manufacturing processes, quality enhancement, productivity and customer satisfaction. The prize is administered by the College of Business of Utah State University and is named in honor of the late Dr. Shigeo Shingo, a world renowned manufacturing expert who served as president of Japan's Institute of Management Improvement.
