LIFESCAN ADDS HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL CENTER

MILPITAS, Calif., August 13, 1998- LifeScan, a Johnson & Johnson company and the leading maker of blood glucose monitoring systems for people with diabetes, has added the Healthcare Professional (HCP) Center and the Kids' Clubhouse to its already extensive educational consumer Web site, http://www.LifeScan.com.

"With the addition of the new, specialized areas to the site, we're able to address the needs of these two important groups," explained Colleen Cox, LifeScan's marketing Web site specialist. "The HCP Center provides important medical information and professional services, while young people with diabetes, who want to experience life like any other child, can learn from the Kids' Clubhouse that their diabetes doesn't have to slow them down."

The HCP Center offers seven sections designed specifically for healthcare professionals who treat patients with diabetes. Areas covered are:

  • Standards of Care for Managing Diabetes: A compilation of the current standards of care for HCPs treating patients with diabetes.
  • Test Result Converter: A tool that converts blood glucose results expressed in plasma values to their whole-blood equivalents and vice-versa.
  • Healthcare Professional Services: A list of services provided by LifeScan's U.S. healthcare professional customer service telephone line.
  • LifeScan Products: A direct link to LifeScan's product page.
  • U.S. Regulatory Agencies: A summary of U.S. agencies with direct links to their Web sites, plus links to all fifty state health department sites.
  • Continuing Medical Education: Information on LifeScan's pharmacy education program, how to become a Certified Diabetes Educator, and how to receive online continuing education units.
  • Online Resources: A list of diabetes-related Web sites for the HCP.

The Kids' Clubhouse offers four special-interest areas -- the arts, animals, sports, and information for parents. Each of the special-interest areas provides users with healthy recipe ideas, links to other Web sites related to that special-interest area, and a travelogue documenting the adventures of a young role model with diabetes.

In addition to the new HCP Center and the Kids' Clubhouse, the LifeScan Web site also features the following content areas:

  • Ask the Expert: Allows Web site users to pose diabetes-related questions to the American Association of Diabetes Educators' (AADE) Educator of the Year.

  • About LifeScan: Presents LifeScan's mission and company history, and provides access to press releases and employment opportunities.

  • Around the World: Offers contact information for LifeScan offices worldwide.

  • Products & Services: Presents LifeScan's family of products and answers to frequently asked questions. Visitors can download owner's manuals and "demo" LifeScan's IN TOUCH® Diabetes Management Software.

  • Diabetes Self-Care: Includes important background on diabetes, including statistics, risk factors and complications, as well as extensive information on how to prevent or delay diabetes complications.
