Insurance Coverage

Does my insurance cover diabetes supplies?
At LifeScan, we think it is important for you to know your coverage options for OneTouch® Products (blood glucose meters and test strips) In the United States, most insurance companies, and Medicare Part B, provide some type of coverage for diabetes supplies, including blood glucose meters and test strips.*

It pays to know your coverage, though. For example, all OneTouch® Blood Glucose Meters and test strips are covered by Medicare Part B. Plus, OneTouch® Ultra® Test Strips—for use with the OneTouch® Ultra®2, OneTouch® UltraSmart®, OneTouch® UltraMini™ and OneTouch® Ultra® Meters—are covered at the lowest co-pay by more health plans than any other test strip!

Helping you get the most out of your healthcare insurance. That's how OneTouch® changes everything.

Medicare Health Insurance Part BAre You Getting The Right Medicare Coverage* for your Diabetes Testing Supplies?
The recent Medicare changes have not affected your coverage for diabetes meters and test strips under Medicare Part B. Remember to present your red, white, & blue Medicare card to your pharmacist whenever you fill your prescription.

Diabetes Education and Nutrition Classes
You may not be aware that many insurance providers offer coverage for diabetes education and nutrition classes. If you have private insurance, your insurance company may pay all or part of the cost of your diabetes education (self-management) programs. Contact your insurance company to find out which diabetes benefits they offer.

In addition to private insurance companies, federal and state governments have implemented legislation allowing reimbursement for certain diabetes education programs. Medicare Part B* and Medicaid programs cover the cost of certain diabetes education classes and Medicare includes medical nutritional therapy (MNT) provided by a dietitian, into the diabetes benefit.

The American Dietetic Association also has more information on this benefit.

* Please be aware that the Medicare, Medicaid and diabetes education programs are not automatically available to all U.S. citizens and residents--you need to meet certain eligibility criteria in order to receive these benefits. Whether you have private health insurance through your employer, or participate in a government program (Medicare/Medicaid) that provides health care insurance coverage and reimbursement, coverage may vary by provider. Please contact your insurance carrier for a complete coverage list.
