On January 14, 2011, LifeScan announced the decision to exit the hospital point-of-care blood glucose testing market in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada. Effective March 31, 2013, the OneTouch® SureStep® Brand of hospital meters and test strips will no longer be available or supported.

Our goal is to help ensure our North American customers’ transition to a new point-of-care glucose testing system is as efficient as possible with minimal disruption to their operations. In addition to providing two years’ notice to allow time to select and install a new system, we are also offering customers the option to amend their current agreements to include a number of benefits to support their transition.

This announcement does not impact your Quick-Linc/QML system or interface to the Laboratory Information System (LIS). TELCOR, your independent middleware provider, will continue to offer connectivity to the LIS and other leading hospital glucose systems. TELCOR will be contacting you to help establish the path forward. TELCOR does not serve customers in Puerto Rico.

In the meantime, we intend to continue offering customers quality OneTouch® SureStep® Products and Support Services without interruption.

It’s important to note that LifeScan’s OneTouch® Ultra® Brand of consumer glucose monitoring products is not impacted by this announcement and will continue to be available.

Further, this decision does not impact hospital product offerings and service in the rest of the world.
